Vehicle theft data from the Insurance Information Institute (III) reveals that the risk of being stolen during spring break in the US is the most risky

Here is a list of cars that burglars find most appealing to steal.

The list toppings boast an astounding 48,445 theft in 2023. Elantra’s popularity among burglars can be attributed to widespread availability and component compatibility with other Hyundai models, making it attractive for black marketing resale and chop shops.

Hyundai Sonata ranks second in 42,813 thefts. Like Elantra, the sonata portion is in high demand. Older models do not have advanced anti-theft features, making it easier to target experienced burglars.

With 30,204 thefts, Kia optima wins the third spot. KIA vehicles have been increasingly targeted due to vulnerabilities in certain models that lack engine immobilizers. This is a standard feature of many modern cars that prevent the engine from starting without the correct key.

The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is the most stolen pickup truck, with 23,721 reporting theft. Its powerful engine and durability make it valuable not only domestically but also illegal exports. Furthermore, that portion is highly sought after in the black market.

Kia Soul has experienced 21,001 thefts. Thieves are drawn to this model for their uniqueness and the same vulnerabilities that affect other KIA models. Owners are advised to take additional precautions to secure the vehicle.

The Honda Accord remains a common target with 20,895 thefts. Parts from Accord, known for its reliability, are compatible with multiple Honda models, increasing the desirability of illegal resale.

Nearby is the Honda Civic, which has 19,858 thefts. Like the Accord, the citizen portion is exchangeable and in high demand. Older models without the latest security features are particularly vulnerable.

Kia Forte has seen 16,209 thefts. The ongoing emergence of the KIA model on this list highlights ongoing security concerns. Owners should consider additional anti-theft devices to protect their vehicles.

The Ford F-150 series picked up was 9th, with 15,852 thefts. As one of the best selling vehicles in the United States, its abundance is a frequent mark for burglars looking for parts or entire vehicles for resale.

Kia Sportage concludes the top 10 with 15,749 thefts. Consistent with other KIA models, Sportage’s susceptibility to theft highlights the need for greater security measures.

“Vehicle theft remains a major concern across the country, and owners of listed models should be especially vigilant. This is especially important for college students heading for vacations for spring break. We recommend investing in additional security devices, such as steering wheel locks, aftermarket immobilizers and GPS tracking systems. Parking in bright areas and keeping your car away can also prevent potential burglars,” said Michelle Rosenblum, spokesman for Tinting-laws.com.
