FORT LAUDERDALE – Back on the road.
Returning home from a six-game road trip, the Florida Panthers lost their only home game to the San Jose Sharks 4-1 on Monday at Amerant Bank Arena before heading north for a three-game road trip.
The Panthers (53 points), who have a record of 25-20-3, are in second place in the wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference, four points behind the Buffalo Sabers (57 points).
“We have enough games to do our job, but we have to start now,” Matthew Tkachuk said after Monday’s loss. “We don’t want to go through the Olympic hiatus and chase until the trade deadline. It’s too difficult. We have to get some points now. All the teams around us keep giving up points. It’s up to us to do the same.”
A key time to pick up points before the Olympic break, the Panthers begin their road trip Thursday against the Winnipeg Jets at the Canada Life Center and conclude this weekend with back-to-back games against the Minnesota Wild and Chicago Blackhawks.
