Report: Amazon expands in Brevard County with $59 million land purchase

Amazon has expanded its Brevard County footprint with the recent acquisition of around 90 acres in Melbourne, and is planning to plan a new operational facility in central Florida.

The e-commerce and cloud computing giant purchased eight lands near Interstate 95 and US 192 on July 28 for $59 million. An Amazon spokesperson confirmed the company’s intention to open a new operating facility on its site, but plans are in early stages and details have not been released yet.

Amazon already maintains a strong presence in the region, employing nearly 6,900 people in Central Florida, including around 1,800 workers in Brevard, Volusia and Flagler counties. In 2022, the company opened a 141,000-square-foot last-minute delivery station on Samo Road, West Melbourne.

The move follows another major investment in the region. It is a $200 million, 630,000 square feet robotics fulfillment center in Daytona Beach, and is expected to open by early fall. The facility will focus on picking, packing and delivering customer orders using advanced robotics technology. Amazon’s public relations specialist Greg Rios previously said the company’s robot centres can help employees learn new skills while improving safety and efficiency.

Amazon’s growth in Florida is amidst strong financial results. The company reported second quarter net sales increased 13% to $167.7 billion. It is expected to increase in third quarter sales from $174 billion to $179.5 billion, showing a 10-13% increase over the same period in 2024.

CEO Andy Jassy praised Amazon’s expanding use of artificial intelligence as a key factor in its growth. The company has integrated AI into ALEXA+ virtual assistants, online shopping tools and logistics systems.

Amazon is also continuing to advance in space technology. In the second quarter, the company completed two successful launches of its satellite internet initiative, Project Kuiper. Amazon’s satellite processing facility is based at the Kennedy Space Center on Merritt Island.
