With the 2026 midterm elections just over 12 months away, President Donald Trump has increased the re-election odds of Florida Agriculture and Consumer Services Secretary Wilton Simpson. Trump posted support for Simpson on Truth Social and praised his accomplishments during his first term.

Simpson is seeking reelection for a second term after a relatively easy victory in the 2022 midterm elections with 59% of the vote. His margin was impressive, but not as large as that of Govs. Ron DeSantis and Ashley Moody, who won their statewide re-election races by 19.4 points and 21 points, respectively. For context, it’s important to note that Mr. DeSantis and Mr. Moody were much better known as incumbents than Mr. Simpson, who was running for his first statewide executive office.
There are currently two potential candidates to challenge Simpson: Republican Michael Minardi and Democrat Chase Romagnano.
