The Florida market for renting Airbnbs coming out of Covid is skyrocketing, but some locations are cleaner for consumers than others.
A new report reveals that we have the dirty Airbnb. Travel site Miss Tourists analyzed Airbnb data to find average clean ratings for the three most populous cities and capitals in each state. Data were taken from a total of 175 US cities and filtered by the 100 properties most reviewed in each. Some cities had Airbnb lists of less than 100, which means fewer characteristics of the analysis.
The number one and most dirty city for Airbnb rentals was New York City, New York.
Number 2 was Miami, Florida. Grand Forks, North Dakota, is in third place. Hawaii’s Honolulu is in fourth place. Fifth is Jersey City, New Jersey.
Chicago, Illinois, is sixth. Jackson, Mississippi and Newark, New Jersey are seventh tied. Montgomery, Alabama, is in 8th place.
Gillette, Wyoming, ranks 9th, with Columbus, Georgia landing in 10th.
Yulia Saf, founder of Miss Tourist, commented on the findings.
“Cleanliness is one of the most important factors for travelers when booking accommodation,” says Saf. “Our study highlights cities where Airbnb guests report most concerns about cleanliness and emphasize the need for consistent maintenance and high standards. High turnover rates change host practices. Whether or not there are other factors, these trends provide valuable insights for both travelers and hosts aiming to improve their short-term rental experiences.”
During the Covid-19 pandemic, Airbnb became an economic hit. Local cities are currently implementing local zoning laws that limit the number of groups and how many people can stay on Airbnb.
Reports of Airbnb dirty Airbnb have caused anger from local neighbours with litter remaining in the front yard, and have led to new laws in place to keep home property values down.
