The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) issued the following statement regarding the Mexican national sentenced to prison.
TAMPA, Fla. – Juan Jaramillo Vasquez, also known as Juan Vasquez, 50, of Mexico, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Mary Scriven to two years in federal prison for illegal re-entry of a deported alien and felony identity theft. Vasquez pled guilty on March 27, 2026. Announced by U.S. Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe.
Court documents revealed that Vazquez had been in the United States voluntarily after being deported from the country three times in 2012. Mr. Vasquez did not have the consent of the Attorney General or the Secretary of Homeland Security for his re-entry application. Vasquez is a Mexican national. Vasquez also fraudulently used victims’ Social Security numbers to obtain employment and tax benefits and falsely present himself to employers and the Social Security Administration.
This incident was investigated by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Diplomatic Security, the Social Security Administration – Office of the Inspector General, Homeland Security Investigations, the U.S. Department of Agriculture – Office of the Inspector General, and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services – Office of the Inspector General. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Ilyssa M. Spergel and Tiffany Fields.
