On June 19, Juneteenth — also known as Emancipation Day, Freedom Day or Jubilee Day — marks the anniversary of the end of slavery in the United States.

The date commemorates 161 years since federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to inform enslaved African Americans of their freedom and the end of the Civil War. In June 2021, Juneteenth was made a federal holiday after years of grassroots advocacy and nationwide civil rights protests.

There are a number of Orlando-area celebrations planned for the holiday. Here are ways to celebrate Juneteenth in Central Florida.
