Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has approved more than 20 bills in the past week, including bills related to vertiports, teacher training and guidance, drowning prevention, and protected lands.
The Florida House and Senate appear to have reached an agreement on a joint apportionment of the 2026-27 budget and are scheduled to begin the budget conference process during another special session on May 12.
General revenue allocations for fiscal year 2026-27 will total nearly $52 billion, with the two chambers aiming to close a spending gap of about $1.5 billion. The special session is scheduled to last until May 29, with lawmakers expected to vote again on the state’s 2026-27 spending plan after Memorial Day.
The approximately $52 billion General Revenue Fund allocation for fiscal year 2026-27 includes:
Administrative funding and statewide issues: $476 million.

Transportation, Tourism and Economic Development: $560 million.
State/General Government: $568 million.
Agriculture and Natural Resources/Agriculture and Environment: $1.38 billion.
Higher education: $6.68 billion.
Justice/Criminal and Civil Justice: $6.96 billion.
K-12 education: $16.2 billion.
Healthcare/Health and Human Services: $19.2 billion.
The national budget is expected to be lower than the previous year’s budget for the second consecutive year. The House and Senate will aim to reconcile the roughly $1.5 billion spending difference between the two chambers.
