A new U.S. Foreclosure Market Report from online real estate and real estate data provider ATTOM shows that Florida is the state with the highest number of home foreclosures in the nation.
In the first six months of 2026, the number of U.S. properties subject to foreclosure claims – notices of default, scheduled auctions, or bank foreclosures – increased by 21% compared to the same period last year.

The cities with the highest foreclosure rates here in Florida were Punta Gorda, Lakeland, Cape Coral, Jacksonville, and Ocala.
Florida Daily economic analyst Steve Beeman said there is still a lot of uncertainty about the housing market in the U.S. economy.
“We’ve also seen headcount reductions due to AI,” Beeman said. “The war in Iran is causing a lot of mixed signals about where the economy and housing market will go next, and things are not looking much better for the real estate industry due to the impact of coronavirus.”
“While foreclosure activity continued to increase in the first half of 2026, the broader picture is that the market is gradually returning to a more typical pattern,” said Rob Barber, CEO of ATTOM. “While the combination of increased foreclosure starts, increased foreclosure completions, and compressed timelines indicates continued normalization of the foreclosure process, this increase also suggests that some homeowners may be facing greater financial strain than they were a year ago.”
