Central Florida Highways Agency Increases Tolls and Offers Discount Programs for Frequent Drivers

Drivers in Central Florida will notice a slight increase in fees today as the Central Florida Highways Agency (CFX) implements a toll hike of 2-5 cents. Officials say an increase is needed to support the region’s critical infrastructure needs.

Additional proceeds will be allocated to the maintenance and operation of the highway system, funding CFX’s newly approved five-year work plan. This includes road construction and improvement projects aimed at maintaining regional growth.

To mitigate the impact on commuters, CFX is also reviving cost-cutting initiatives. The revived programme will be offered to frequently used e-Pass customers with a 25% discount on toll roads, providing some relief to regular drivers in price adjustments.

CFX dates back to the Orlando Orange County Expressway (OOCEA), which was founded in the 1960s, building the Beeline Expressway and then the East and West Expressway. In 2014, OOCEA was extended under state law and reorganized into CFX, expanding its jurisdiction, including Brevard, Lake, Orange, Osceola, and Seminole counties. In 2018, CFX absorbed the Osceola County Expressway Authority (OCX) and integrated fee collection and management across one regional entity.

Today, CFX oversees approximately 125 centerline miles toll roads, including SRs 408, 414, 417, 429, 451, 453, 528, and 538. The agency is a pioneer in open road traffic and interoperability, accepting E-Pass across systems across multiple states and providing UNI transponders for E‑ZPass users.
