Are more members of Generation Z finding faith in God?

Ed Dean
Vox’s analysis shows that General Zers (an individual born between 1997 and 2012) is coming to embrace religion.

The story suggests that he came to the scene around or after Covid-19. Movement among young Americans began to concentrate on religion after years of decline.

In February this year, Pew Research said that the rise in General Z of religion was similar to that of the same older Americans.

Pew says that after showing a long-standing spiral between 2019 and 2024, Christian share of the adult population is relatively stable, hovering between 60% and 64%.

Why is there an increase in General Zell’s movement towards faith?

Vox says there are three potential explanations:

Reaction to the Lonely epidemic?

<

That Gen Z, and the younger Americans in general, feel lonely and isolated from each other. Vox says he feels isolated from two-thirds of Gen Z’s Z, either alone or detached from the world.

Something about the postcovid seems to bring the youth back to Christianity, specifically.

Some believe this dynamic has led to a corresponding “mental health crisis” during the pandemic lockdown period that defined most adolescents in Z.

There could be some right political or social change for young people.

There is a sharp gender gap in who is driving Gen Z’s religious change. Younger-Z men are becoming far more religious, but younger women who maintain religious affiliations have shifted to a more politically liberal and tolerant tradition of faith, especially in the United States.

“This gender gap is very dramatic. GenZ men are more likely to participate in religious services than GenZ women,” the analysis found.
