Help Charlie’s Bakery & Creamery choose their new “Sentinel Scoop”

The Orlando Sentinel’s 150th anniversary has been celebrated year-long across the city with community forums, historical exhibits, themed events, and delicious events.

And our current local partnership with Orlando’s oldest bakery is ice cream for journalism fans ages 2 to 102 to enjoy.

When owners John and Tricia Hage purchased Charlie’s Bakery & Creamery several years ago, they added ice cream to the mix of beautiful baked goods that Orlandoans have enjoyed for decades. For this special occasion, we’ve come up with five Florida-inspired flavors for customers to taste and then vote on which flavor will be available as a pint for a limited time.

“Families can go to the store, sample each flavor, discuss their favorites, and then place their cards in the ballot box to vote,” said LeAnn Rollins, advertising coordinator for the Orlando Sentinel.

“It can also spark some fun discussions with family and friends, and the word ‘vote’ seems to be the only hot topic right now.”

Following Sentinel’s partnership with local beer emporium Ten 10 Brewing, two of the four Sentinel-inspired beers released quarterly, and a special commemorative whiskey from Winter Park’s Forward/Slush Distillery already on the market, Journalism’s call made a treat for all ages seem like the natural next step.

Our collaboration with Florida creates a fun flavor mix.

These include Orange Blossom Honey (orange blossom honey ice cream infused with the delicate floral sweetness of Florida orange blossoms), Orange County Creamsicle (a nostalgic creamsicle-inspired treat with creamy vanilla wrapped around orange-flavored ice cream), and The City Beautiful (rich chocolate ice cream with colorful mini M&M’s and chunks of Charlie’s signature brownie and milk chocolate chip cookies). cream) and Sunshine State (a refreshing lemon ice cream). It was served with sweet strawberry variegated and gatortail (salted caramel ice cream packed with praline pecans and drizzled with rich chocolate fudge).

“The winning flavor, named Sentinel’s 150th SCOOP, will be announced at Sentinel’s ‘Orlando Politics’ event on August 17 at the Timucua Arts Foundation (eventbrite.com/e/orlando-sentinels-150th-anniversary-politics-in-orlando-tickets-1994754459285).” Rollins. “Those interested can purchase pints of the winning flavor at Ten 10 Brewing and Forward/Slush Distilleries as well as in-store.”

Additionally, one winner from those who voted will be invited back to Charlie’s to help produce the first batch of the winning flavor and take home a pre-launch pint and a Charlie’s T-shirt.

“Charlie’s will also be offering free ice cream in carts at the event,” she says. “Keep politics calm”

Guests can sample each flavor at Charlie’s Bakery & Creamery and vote for their favorite during the voting period until August 10th. Flavors will only be available for tasting during this period. It cannot be purchased.

Charlie’s Bakery & Creamery is located at 3213 Curry Ford Road in Orlando, 407-898-9561. charlie’sbakery.com.
