here we go again.

The Florida Panthers, the second straight season meeting in the Stanley Cup final, will begin the series with the Edmonton Oilers in Game 1 at Rogers Place on Wednesday.

A rare event, this is the 12th time the same two teams have fought for the Cup in a row.

As they try to maintain South Florida’s Stanley Cup, the defending champion Panthers have a chance to become the first team to beat the same opponent in the Cup final in the back-to-back campaign since the Montreal Canadiens defeated the Boston Bruins in both 1977 and 1978.

Games 1 and 2 at Edmonton host a watch party at Amerant Bank Arena.

When it comes to history, the Panthers are ready to start things.

“We think this series has more energy than the previous three,” Director Paul Maurice said. “I’m sure that applies to Edmonton too. The regular season was a more grind for us than either of the two before. Then, in each round, there’s a bigger build to get excited just because there’s a light at the end of the tunnel.

To see what’s happening around territory this week or below, continue below.

Sasha’s surprise

Alexander Barkov needs to make more space in his mantle.

On Monday, the NHL announced that the Panthers superstar captain won not only his third Frank J. Selke Trophy, but also his first King Clancy Memorial Trophy.

Selke Trophy is awarded annually to “forwards who excel in the defensive aspects of the game”, and King Clancy is awarded annually to “have made remarkable humanitarian contributions in his community to the players who most demonstrate leadership qualities on and off the ice.”

Barkov is the first player to win both awards in the same season.

“It’s a great honor to get that,” Barkov said. “That’s because you’re off the ice. For me, it’s very important to do that, especially at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital.”

Even more rewarding, Barkov received the trophy in a very special way.

With all his teammates in the room, Barkov was introduced to the trophy (first King Clancy and then Serke) by a patient from Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital.

Since 2019, Barkov has donated $1,600 per goal and $800 in all assists he produces through the regular season and playoffs to hospitals.
