Its greatness has grown over time.
After posting just six points in 81 games split between the Blues and Rangers in 2022-23, Miccola scored a new career with 17 points in her first season with Florida in 2023-24.
This season he took another step, posting his new career best on goals (6) and points (22).
Over the past two seasons, he has led the Panthers on hits (335) and blocks (212).
“It’s great to have that type of guy on your team,” Barkov said.
After registering two goals, two assists, 61 hits and 29 blocks in 24 games to help the Panthers capture last year’s Stanley Cup, Miccola has been essentially equally effective during this year’s playoff run, and has been effective so far throughout 13 games with goals, assists, 32 hits and 12 blocks.
But when I ask his teammates, I love more about Miccola than he plays.
Like a real condor, he has quite a groan.
“When he comes back on the bench, I find myself laughing all the time and he’s screaming about something,” defender Aaron Eckbrad said.
“Sometimes I don’t even know what he’s saying, but he always says something and comes back to the bench.
Play heavy styles, but do you keep your mood lighter?
Talk about two-way players.
“He’s really funny,” Barkov smiled. “Like I said, we’re lucky to have him.”
Miccola and his teammates will return to Game 2 ICE at Lenovo Center at 8pm on Thursday as the Panthers look to lead 2-0 in the Eastern Conference Finals.
