The next battle has arrived.
After passing the Tampa Bay Lightning in the first round of the Eastern Conference, the Florida Panthers will try to bring Lord Stanley a step closer when they face the Toronto Maple Leafs in the second round.
Game 1 action begins Monday at Scottia Bank Arena at 8pm.
“They obviously won the Division this year,” defensive man Seth Jones said of the Maple Leafs. “They’re a very talented team and are very offensive. We’re cutting out the work for us.”
In a second round rematch of the 2023 Eastern Conference, the Panthers will attempt to replicate the outcome of their 4-1 series victory two seasons ago.

Not one but two
On Saturday, the NHL announced that both Alexander Barkov and Sam Reinhart are finalists in the Serke Trophy, the award given to the league’s best defensive forward.
Just the fifth time my teammate won the award. The final pair came in 2007-2008 with Detroit Red Wing Spa Bell Dazzik and Henrik Zetterberg.
“They’re amazing on both sides,” Sergei Bobrovsky said of Barkov and Reinhard. “Last year, Reino scored 57 goals. He’s a candidate for Serke. That doesn’t happen very often with the same guy. He can score goals, he can defend everything, he can do everything.
The fourth finalist in his career (2020-21, 2021-22, 2023-24), Barkov won the awards in 2020-21 and 2023-24.
It is likely that he will compete for the award for years to come, which is the first finalist for Reinhardt, after finishing fourth in last year’s poll.
