It is called the “Rural Renaissance” of Florida.
A report from the Florida Chamber of Commerce Foundation (FCF) states that with appropriate investment, 31 rural counties in Florida are experiencing unprecedented economic growth in the areas of infrastructure, manufacturing, agricultural technology, broadband and workforce development.
The FCF highlights the great advances that rural counties have prepared.
Florida’s 31 rural counties currently account for just 2.92% of the state’s $1.6 trillion growth economy. However, rural areas have outperformed non-rural counties with GDP growth over the past five years. Since 2018, rural counties have experienced GDP growth of 56.6%, surpassing the 49.1% growth rate for non-rural counties. Some counties, such as Liberty, Okeechobee and Walton, have seen extraordinary economic expansion.
“With proper policy, focus and investment, Florida has achieved the ambitious targets set in the 2030 Florida 2030 blueprint, doubling rural GDP by 5.56% by 2030,” the report states.
Target investments in key areas of the FCF list are extremely important.
Infrastructure Development: Expand rural transportation networks to better connect businesses, workers and markets.
Broadband Expansion: Ensure universal access to high-speed internet to support business growth, remote work, education, and healthcare.
Manufacturing Growth: Use affordable land in rural counties as a major location for large manufacturing facilities and invest in related workforce training.
AGTECH: Florida’s agriculture industry feeds the world. By combining research and development (R&D) with agriculture, technology and innovation-based investments can help you leverage local assets in Florida.
Rural county certifications are being invested. Last week, Defuniak Springs is the city of Triumph Gulf Coast, Inc. for $4,229,000 for improvements made to Defuniak Springs airport. I was awarded a grant from The funds will build two 6,400 square feet hangars, one 10,000 square feet hangars and an access road to the hangar.
The city says the project will create hundreds of new jobs in Defuniak Springs and surrounding areas, creating an estimated economic impact of more than $12.3 million in the region.
Jennifer Green with Liberty Partners tells Florida every day. The northwest Florida region is attracting investment for growth opportunities.
“There will be major industries moving into the region and will enhance economic progress and quality of life in rural Florida,” Green said.
