Ten years ago, the Orlando community came together in grief and tragedy when a gunman burst into the Pulse nightclub, killing 49 people and injuring dozens more.

Ten years after the mass shooting, Central Florida unites to remember the fallen angels who died that night, showing that love is stronger than hate. This week marks the 10th anniversary, starting June 12, 2016, with art exhibitions, community events, and commemorations.

2026 Pulse Memorial Ceremony

Join our community at First United Methodist Church as we remember the 49 lives lost on June 12, 2016. The ceremony will include musical performances by local artists, the Orlando Gay Chorus, a special presentation by Orlando Poet Laureate Kamala Gaither, a candlelight ceremony, and the reading of 49 names. Join us for the event starting June 12th at 5:30pm at 142 E. Jackson St. in Orlando. More information: pulserlando.org

Created by the Community: Pulse Portrait

The exhibition, held at Orlando’s Terrace Gallery, features 49 portraits honoring the lives lost in the Pulse tragedy. The work, designed by artist Jeff Sonksen, was completed as a paint-by-numbers project by the victims’ friends, family, and community members. The exhibition will run from June 11th to August. Located at 400 S. Orange Ave. 23 in Orlando. More information: pulserlando.org

Prayer Ribbon Memorial Exhibition

A commemorative exhibition of prayer ribbons will be held at City Hall Square until June 14th. Jay Critchley, an artist with the Provincetown Community Compact in Massachusetts, is sending out colorful ribbons with messages of support made for our community after the tragedy. The tradition began when artists carved each victim’s name on a ribbon and sent it to Orlando within a few months of June 12, 2016. More information: pulserlando.org

Pulse 10: Angels’ Bakine

The community memorial, held at Spirit of Joy Church, is sponsored by Del Ambiente, a nonprofit organization serving Puerto Rico’s LGBTQ+ community. Join us in a healing space rooted in the Afro-Puerto Rican Bakine tradition as we commemorate the 49 Pulse victims. The ceremony will be held June 11 from 7 to 9 p.m. at 1801 Rouse Road in Orlando. Memorial Blood Donation Day

One Blood will be accepting blood donations outside Orlando’s downtown City Hall on the anniversary of the Pulse shooting. Donate blood at 400 S. Orange Ave. in Orlando on June 12 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Reserve your donation time on the OneBlood website: oneblood.org

Pulse Memorial Site Lighting

In memory of the 49 angels, the Pulse Memorial will be lit from dusk to dusk until June 15th. This quiet activity serves as a peaceful tribute to a decade of resilience. Visit the memorial at 1912 S. Orange Ave. in Orlando. More information: pulserlando.org
