Venezuela says it has reached a deal to resume deportation of illegal immigrants

Maduro said El Salvador is responsible for imprisoning his people.

Venezuela said it would once again accept US repatriation flights that were deported to the country to illegally enter the US.

Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro announced that he had reached a deal at an address that aired on Saturday.

“Tomorrow, thanks to government patience, we will resume flights and continue to rescue and release immigrants from US prisons,” Maduro said.

“We have agreed to the US government to resume the return of Venezuelan immigrants on our first flight on Sunday,” Venezuela chairman and chief negotiator with the US Jorge Rodriguez said in a statement on social media.

This prevented illegal immigrants, who are Venezuelan citizens, from being deported to detention centers in El Salvador, guaranteeing “returning our fellow nations to the nation with the protection of human rights,” and mentioned Venezuelan gang members currently being hampered in El Salvador.

“Moving is not a crime. We will not rest until someone comes back and saves the tempted brother in El Salvador,” added Rodriguez.

The Epoch Times contacted the White House for comments.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio threatened even more severe sanctions after halting the suspension of repatriation flights on March 18, in response to Maduro’s withdrawal of Chevron’s license to join Venezuela’s oil sector on March 8.

Diplomatic nausea erupted, and the United States threatened to send illegal criminal immigrants from Venezuela to El Salvador for detention if Caracas did not accept them.

Around 350 Venezuelans had already been deported as part of Trump’s rapid deportation program, which prioritized the removal of illegal immigrants, who are violent criminals or terrorists. Among them were about 180 people who were said to be members of Tren de Aragua, who spent up to 16 days at a US Navy Base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

Tren de Aragua came from a prison in Venezuela. Members are accompanied by the departure of millions of economic migrants and political refugees from Venezuela, seeking better living conditions after regaining the past decade and reverting the country’s democracy and economy.
In February, President Donald Trump had already designated Tren de Aragua, along with the transnational organisation Mala Salbatrucha (MS-13) and several drug cartels.

As Maduro freeze continued, on March 15, the Trump administration summoned the Alien Enemy Act of 1798. This law applies during wartime or when there is an attempt or threat to invade US territory. The White House said Tren de Aragua is an invasion force and will act to deport gang members.

Around 250 Venezuelan illegal immigrants are said to be linked to Tren de Aragua and were later deported to a high-security prison in El Salvador.

The Venezuelan Home Minister denied that Decoty is a member of Tren de Aragua.

Their family and lawyers say they were unable to reach them and demanded that Maduro secure a return to Venezuela. They argue that the Trump administration does not provide evidence that the citizenship committed crimes in the United States. The Trump administration said it has the right to deport illegal immigrants and prioritizes criminals and others found nearby.

In a televised speech, Maduro said that President Naibe Buquere, president of El Salvador, was responsible for imprisoning his people, repeatedly saying they had not committed any crimes in the United States or El Salvador.

“You have to ensure their health, and earlier than late, you have to release them and hand them over,” he told Bukere.

Court challenge

A federal judge for the District of Columbia issued an order temporarily banning the deportation of five Venezuelans, but the administration said the flights were already in the air by the time of the ruling.

The plane landed in El Salvador, and Buquel posted on social media that the intervention was “too late.”

The White House faces allegations that it violates the judge’s orders it refutes.

Judge James Boseberg ordered the Trump administration to provide more information about officials’ allegations that they did not violate an order that temporarily blocked their ouster at the March 25 hearing.

Reuters and the Associated Press contributed to the report.
