For years, vehicle theft has been a persistent concern across Florida, impacting daily commuters, families, and businesses alike. From urban downtowns to quiet residential streets, risk has long been part of the landscape. But recently something has changed. The state is currently undergoing a remarkable turnaround, marking a new chapter in its public safety history.
The study was conducted by Florida-based personal injury law firm Anijar & Levine and analyzed state-level case data extracted from the FBI Crime Data Explorer.
Three important points
1. Florida leads the nation in theft reductions: Florida recorded a 49.3% decrease in auto thefts, the highest of all 50 states. This solidified our position as No. 1 nationwide and set a clear standard for year-on-year improvement.
2. One of the largest single-year declines in the U.S.: The state saw 9,790 fewer vehicle thefts in 2025 compared to 2024. This significant decline highlights both the scale and speed with which theft trends have changed across Florida.
3. Outperforming the national average: Florida’s decline rate is more than 20 percentage points higher than the national average of 28.7%. This gap highlights how significantly the state is outperforming broader national trends.
