The announcement concluded speculation about the future of waltz at the White House.
President Donald Trump announced Thursday that he was naming White House national security adviser Mike Waltz as the United Nations US ambassador, coming after reports indicating that Waltz is leaving his advisory position.
“He knows he’ll do the same in his new role,” he wrote.
“Interim, Secretary of State Marco Rubio will serve as national security adviser and will continue his strong leadership at the Department of State.
The announcement ended speculation about the future of Waltz in the administration after several media outlets said the Waltz would leave, citing anonymous sources. It comes weeks after Waltz confirmed that Atlantic editor Jeffrey Goldberg had mistakenly invited him to a signal chat with other officials, including discussions about the Yemeni airstrike.
Trump had previously been appointed by Rep. Elise Stefanik (RN.Y.) to become the UN ambassador, but eventually withdrew from the fight.
