The President has also announced that Carlos Cordeiro will serve as senior adviser to the task force.
President Donald Trump announced on May 6 that he had appointed Andrew Giuliani, the son of former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, as executive director of the President’s task force at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The President has also announced that Carlos Cordeiro will serve as senior adviser to the task force. He is currently a senior advisor to FIFA and president of the US Football Federation, and played a major role in securing the US as host of the 2026 tournament alongside Canada and Mexico.
Trump’s announcement came when he convened his first task force meeting at the White House. There were also Vice President JD Vance, FIFA President Gianni Infantino, Secretary of Homeland Security Christie Noem, Treasury Secretary Scott Bescent, Secretary of Commerce Howard Ludnik, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, and FBI Director Kash Patel. Vance is the vice-chairman of the task force.
“This will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to showcase America’s beauty and greatness. We cannot wait to welcome soccer fans from all over the world,” Trump said.
The president said his administration would “work to ensure that these events are safe and successful, and that people traveling to America will have a seamless experience in every part of their visit.”
The US will host 78 of the 104 games at the World Cup, Infantino said. There are 11 US cities that host the game, including Miami, Boston, Kansas City, Philadelphia and Seattle. The championship game will take place at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
“Soccer is an incredible sport of bounty, finesse and beauty,” Vance said.
“These are three things that have nothing to do with politics, so we are excited to be able to host the FIFA World Cup in the United States,” he continued. “I think we’ll see the best of the United States of America, not just in athletic competition, but also in the things that your boss knows quite a bit.”
Noem pledged to ensure the World Cup was safe and secure, but she admitted it was a challenge. Duffy said it works to ensure that the airspace around the game is safe.
