President Donald Trump has said that Michigan Air National Guard bases will play a “significant role” in U.S. defense.
President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that Selfridge Air National Guard Base in Michigan will receive 21 new F-15Ex Eagle II Fighter Jets as replacements for 21 retired A-10 Wallathon aircraft.
Trump visited Michigan to celebrate the first 100 days of his second term.
“As commander, I am proud to announce that I will replace the soon-to-be-retired A-10 Walla sick person with 21 new F-15Ex Eagle II Fighter Jets,” he added. “It’s the best in the world.”
The F-15Ex fighter is expected to arrive at Selfridges in fiscal year 2028, in addition to the next KC-46A tanker secured last year, according to Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s office.
Selfridge Base donates an estimated $850 million to Michigan’s economy, helping to hire 30,000 people around the state. With the exception of Space Forces, it hosts units from all branches of U.S. Armed Services and is home to the Homeland Security Operations, the Governor’s Office said.
McComb County executive Mark Hackel thanked Trump and said that taking the F-15Ex fighter to Selfridges would solidify the base as “Michigan’s best defense installation.”
The aerospace company said aircraft can shoot targets from a range that has “significantly increased.”
Trump said the experimental version of the Boeing F-47 aircraft has been in secret for almost five years, and he is confident that the aircraft will “significantly overwhelm the capabilities of other countries.”
Details about the aircraft’s design remain secret, and Trump said he would not specify a price for the program as it could give hints about the aircraft’s size and some of the technologies it contains.
