Trump administrators will intervene in case of illegal immigrants convicted of DUI death in California

The Mexican was found guilty in 2021 for killing a young California couple while driving drunk in 2021.

The Trump administration is currently involved in cases of illegal immigrants who are scheduled to be released from California prisons more than six years earlier.

Oscar Eduardo Ortega Anguiano was recently granted early release after being convicted in 2021 for murdering a California couple who crashed while driving drunk.

Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) has detained illegal immigrants and he will soon be transferred to ICE custody, the agency confirmed Wednesday.

“Oscar Eduardo Ortega Angiano, a two-time illegal alien from Mexico, led to the death of an American couple after being convicted of manslaughter of a general vehicle while drunk. A 10-year prison sentence, ICE placed detainees at the California Department of Amendment upon his release.”

In an emailed statement to NTD, sister media of the Epoch Times, California’s Office of Amendments (CDCR) confirmed Ortega Angiano was released early.

“The CDCR can confirm that 43-year-old Oscar E. Ortega Anguiano was received from Orange County on June 2, 2022,” the department said. “Consistent with a guilty plea from Orange County, he was sentenced to 10 years on manslaughter of a general vehicle while drunk.

CDCR also confirmed with NTD that in July 2025 it will be the earliest release date he can be.

“For safety and security reasons, the CDCR cannot provide further information regarding the date or location of a person who was incarcerated prior to release,” he added.

California Governor Gavin Newsom has vowed to work with Ice on the issue.

“After being deported in 2013, the individual illegally rejoined the United States and committed a heinous crime,” the governor’s office wrote in a statement. “The GOP DA has given a plea deal instead of pursuing a second-degree murder. (California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation) will adjust with ice again, as well as more than 10,000 prisoners, to transfer him before release.”
Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer was the DA at the time of the fatal crash, but in an X post he replied to the governor’s statement, “This was not a plea deal.”

“This failed to plead with the court and discuss the biggest ruling on the objection of the Orange County prosecutor, a defendant who was pleaded with the court and was sentenced by a judge under California law,” Spitzer said in a statement.

Ortega Anguiano was speeding up while drunk on the California highway.

The teenage couple should be alive today, an Orange County Republican said in response to a statement from the governor.

“Their lives were killed when Oscar Eduardo Ortega Angiano, an illegal immigrant who was paid twice in 2021, was driving 100 mph while driving drunk high at Seal Beach,” OC GOP wrote in X.

According to the White House, if California is not complying with ice detainees, the DOJ is ready to prosecute the case in federal court.

Bill Essayli, a US lawyer for the Central District of California, announced in X that he is indicting Ortega Anguiano under federal immigration charges. According to Essayli, if convicted, he faces up to 20 years in federal prison.

Attorney General Pam Bondy called the fatal crash incident “absolutely merciless” and called for prompt justice for the victims’ families.

Friends and family paid tribute to the couple at the time of their deaths. The GofundMe page described Varfolomeev as “the ray of the sun” and Pepperdyne University called Osokin a “great student.”
