Trump administrators blocked about $430 billion with federal funds, top Democrats say

President Trump and Elon Musk say they want to reduce federal fraud, waste and abuse.

Congressional Democrats said on April 29 that the Trump administration blocked around $430 billion in federal funds and recorded how it halted the flow of funds.

Senator Rosa Delaulo (D-Conn.), a top Democrat on the Senate and House Approximately Expenditure Committee, released the tracker on April 29, saying, “How to injure people with President Trump’s vast and illegal funding freeze and every postcode in America.”

“Instead of investing in Americans, President Trump is ignoring our laws and tearing our resources apart,” Murray and Delauro said. They said funds that were cut or frozen by the Trump administration have been approved by Congress.

The strong House and Senate appropriations committees, where Republicans control both chambers by majority, draft an annual funding law that Congress passes and sends to the president’s desk and sends his signature to become law.

Since taking office in January, Trump has said he wants to reduce federal fraud, waste and abuse while trying to end various programs that don’t match his administration’s priorities.

The Elon Musk-led Office of Government Efficiency (DOGE) was created by the president in January through executive orders and is entrusted with those efforts. According to its website, Doge said it saved an estimated $160 billion, or about $993 per taxpayer.

The White House, which has not responded to Democrats’ claims, did not immediately respond to Epoch Times’ request for comments.

In a news release Tuesday, Democrats highlighted several programs that have been cut under the Trump administration. This includes $1 billion from HeadStart, which provides early childhood education, health and nutrition services.

They pointed to $12 million in cancelled funding for the Fair Housing Initiative Program, which provides grants to nonprofits to “prevent housing discrimination.” They also cited nearly $1 billion for the green and resilient retrofit program. $10 million for the Citizens and Integrated Grant Program. including a $80 million grant and a contract with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The Trump administration is fighting in court to keep many of the administration’s cuts in federal agencies.

“People voted for a massive government reform, and that’s what people are trying to get,” said Musk, a senior presidential adviser and special government employee who appeared at the White House in February. “That’s what democracy is all about.”

Over the past week, after Tesla, the Musk electric car company, posted lower than expected profits and revenues in the first quarter of 2025, Musk told investors his work with Doge would drop significantly in the next month or so. In any case, as a special civil servant, Mask can only work for the government for 130 days before leaving.

Musk said he will continue to support the Trump administration, “to ensure that the waste and fraud we stopped have not returned.”

In a statement released by the White House, Trump said Doge was designed to “provide accountability and transparency in federal spending, ensuring taxpayer dollars are spent wisely and effectively.”

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
