Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson announce $1 million donations to La Wildfire Relief

The couple, who live in Pallisard in the Pacific, thanked their first responders and expressed their sadness towards their neighbours and residents who lost everything.

Actor Tom Hanks and his wife, Rita Wilson, are paying it forward to helping rescue operations following the devastating Los Angeles County wildfires by donating $1 million.

In a joint statement via Instagram on February 21, the couple announced their pledges to five organizations to help people in need along with their first responders.

Recipients are the Film and Television Fund, the Los Angeles Fire Foundation, the SAG-AFTRA Foundation Disaster Relief Fund, the American Red Cross and Musical.

“Like many of us, we see the losses and devastation created by the fires in Altadena and Palisade. The challenges for the future of these communities are immeasurable,” read the post.
The couple’s Pacific Palisade home fled the flames slightly after the fire ignited on January 7th, killing 12 people and destroying or damaging nearly 8,000 structures.

“We are very grateful to the first responders and firefighters who fought everything they had to save their homes and people,” they added.

Hanks and Wilson join other celebrities who have offered helping hand, such as Jamie Lee Curtis and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Beyonceand Paris Hilton.
Curtis and her family, who also live in Pacific Palisade, made a $1 million pledge in January to support “our great cities and states and the great people who live there.”
Meanwhile, the star-studded lineup joined forces for the Fireaid Benefit Concert on January 30th, bringing music and solidarity to help restore the devastated community.

Over 30 artists at two Inglewood venues, including Billie Eilish, Dave Matthews and John Mayer, Jerry Roll, Green Day, Lady Gaga, Red Hot Chili Pepper and Gwen Stefani. played.

According to Fireaid, half of the revenue will be distributed through the initial grant set after partnering with more than 100 organizations to support burn areas.

“Most grants are concentrated on families, students, children and foster parents, and have lost their homes, schools and other safe shelters,” the nonprofit wrote on its website.

“In addition, many focus on frontline workers and firefighters, putting their safety at risk for our protection. Small business owners and displaced people who have lost their source of employment. . Elderly people with increased disabilities and adults with disabilities. Artists and musicians use their talent to raise funds while facing countless challenges.”
