The incident only occurred one block from the main station, so officers were on the scene within minutes.
Three people were shot dead when a shooting erupted Sunday night outside a concert and car show at an Arizona restaurant. The two of the deceased were brothers.
The shooting occurred outside El Camarongigan Temarisco & Steakhouse in Glendale, when the brawl escalated, according to a police statement.
Glendale Police Department spokesman Jose Santiago wrote in an email to reporters on May 5th. “These individuals were told to leave the venue. When they left, these individuals escalated in the parking lot, and when these individuals began filming,” said Jose Santiago, a spokesman for the Glendale Police Station, “Around 745pm, the fight broke out near the stage area.”
Glendale is about 20 minutes’ walk from Phoenix.
The police department has identified the dead as 21, as well as brothers Damien Anthony Sprawl, 17, and Christopher Juaquin Sprawl, 21.
He was seriously injured and needed surgery overnight, but the minors are expected to survive, Santiago said.
“We know we handle multiple shooters, and our detectives are trying to narrow down the range of shooters we handle,” Santiago added. “They are currently gathering shell cases in that area to determine the number of weapons of the type used. That helps narrow down the likelihood of the number of firers.”
Other injuries ranged from 20 to 23 years of age, including two women and three men.
At the moment leading up to the shooting, police said about 200-300 people were at or near the venue.
“We consider this to be an isolated incident involving individuals known to each other,” Santiago said. “That’s why we don’t believe there is a threat there.”
A bystander named Lupe Rodriguez said he ran for cover after hearing the gunshot. He was shaken, but expressed gratitude for his and his friends’ survival.
“There was a man on the ground, but it didn’t look like he’d made it,” he said. “His father was screaming for his name.”
The restaurant is only a block from the main station of the Glendale Police Station, so officers were on the scene within minutes.
According to Santiago, there were no arrests, but several people were asked.
“We express our deep sadness to those who have lost their dear one and all who are grieving after this heartbreaking incident. In times of sadness, the strength of our community and the support of each other will bring comfort and healing.
