Dr. Tom Shimabukuro leads the CDC’s Immunization Safety Bureau.
The CDC’s parent agency has notified the US Senators as records from the Center’s top officials for Centers Control and Prevention are missing.
On April 9, a Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) official told Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) in March that “records are difficult to find.”
More recently, HHS officials said Dr. Tom Shimabukuro’s records were “lost and potentially completely removed from HHS’ email system,” Johnson added.
Shimabukuro, CDC, and HHS did not respond to requests for comment at each publishing time.
Furthermore, given Dr. Shimamura’s role in the CDC, including surveillance of adverse events related to the Covid-19 vaccine, his communication will be summoned to HHS on January 28, 2025 for a record of Covid-19 vaccine development and safety.
The senator also said that if Shimamura mistreated records, he could be in violation of laws such as the federal records law.
Johnson asked Bondi, Patel and Hodgkins to investigate whether Shimizu and other officials within the HHS deleted or destroyed agency records, including attempts to avoid council surveillance or requests for Freedom of Information Act.
A spokesman for the Department of Justice and the HHS Inspector’s Office (OIG) confirmed in an email to the Epoch era that the agency received the letter and declined to comment further. The FBI declined to comment.
“So I think we’re all safe,” he wrote in one of his 2021 emails.
Johnson also requested a general investigation of Moren’s HHS inspector. According to Johnson, HHS has not confirmed whether the probe has been started.
“To date, HHS OIG has refused to confirm that it has launched any of these investigations. HHSOIG’s lack of transparency with Congress is unacceptable,” Johnson wrote. “If the allegations regarding false misunderstandings in Dr. Shimamura’s agency records are true, we will question the effectiveness of HHS OIG’s surveillance and question whether HHS OIG actually did what he asked 19 months ago.”
