The man from Butler, Pennsylvania, has been arrested for allegedly threatening to assassinate President Donald Trump and other US authorities.
A Pennsylvania man has been arrested and charged with assaulting and assassinating President Donald Trump and other U.S. officials, federal prosecutors announced on April 11.
According to prosecutors, Monper’s post included multiple explicit threats, including a February comment that “it is necessary to kill Trump, Elon, all the heads of Trump, all appointed agents, and anyone in the way.” This post included a call to launch “American Revolution 2.0.”
Another post from early March is said to have declared, “I am going to assassinate himself.” A few days later, Monper escalated his rhetoric, writing:
Federal agents tied “Mr. Satan” accounts to Momper’s residence and discovered that Trump obtained a firearms permit shortly after he took office in January. He is accused of committing additional threats to federal agents, including ice personnel who wrote in April.
Attorney General Pam Bondy praised the FBI and local government for their prompt action, saying in a statement that he “helpfully identified and arrested the individual before carrying out any threats to President Trump’s life and the lives of other innocent Americans.”
“Whenever a threat of assassination or massive violence occurs anytime, anywhere, this Department of Justice should be relieved to find, arrest, prosecute, and seek the maximum appropriate punishment of the law,” Bondy added.
Currently, Monper is being held without bail without holding the April 14 detention hearing set. If convicted, he could face a major federal prison. His lawyer could not reach a comment.
Monper’s arrest also follows the new development of another well-known incident, including an attempt to assassinate Trump. In Florida, Ryan Rouse faces both federal and state charges over allegations that he attempted to shoot Trump when he played golf last fall. The Florida Attorney General announced on April 10 that Rous, who was jailed on federal charges in connection with an attempted assassination, was charged at the state level with terrorism and attempted murder.
Routh, scheduled for court in the federal complaint in September, pleaded not guilty.
