UCLA has one of the best seasons in school history and has been rewarded with the overall seed of the Women’s NCAA Tournament.
The Bruins have joined South Carolina, Southern California and Texas as the first species the NCAA revealed on Sunday night.
This is the first time in school history that the Bruins have been the top team in a tournament. They had two losses in the season, both of which came to the Trojans.
“This is evidence of how hard everyone in this program has been. The entire No. 1 seed doesn’t take us to the Final Four and we don’t take us to the national championship,” UCLA guard Kiki Rice said. “We have to go out there and make money.”
One of UCLA’s victories this season came to South Carolina. Gamecocks coach Dawn Staley felt the team should get top seed and that they had an extra day of rest as they advanced to Final Four.
“I’m a bit surprised because we manufactured the schedule and placed ourselves in order to make ourselves the top overall seed,” she said. “Do a blind test and place your resume against the other teams in the field. You’ll choose us. It’s simple and simple.”
Unlike last year, when the GameCocks finished an unbeaten season in the national title, the team has three losses towards the insanity of March.
“Two key factors between UCLA and South Carolina. Delita Dawkins, chairman of the NCAA Select Committee, said: “The other is one of our standards, competitive in losses, and South Carolina suffered a 29-point loss to UConn. These were the important differences between the two of these resumes.”
Staley’s team aims to become the first team to repeat as champions since UCONN won four consecutive wins since 2013-16. The 2-seeded Husky is about to end the drought with Star Page Booker. If they reach a sweet 16, reach a potential rematch with Juju Watkins and the Trojans may be waiting in the Elite 8, they must go out west.
Passing isn’t easy for everyone. This year, we will be more equal in sports. This NCAA tournament will be the second tournament in the last 19 years, and there will be no teams who will not take part in March’s insanity with zero or one loss. The other time was 2022.
The Trojans and Bruins, the Big Ten rookies this season, are about to win the conference’s first national championship since Purdue won the only one in 1999. There is a record 12 Big Ten teams on the field. The SEC has 10 and ACC 8. There are seven in the Big 12.
The Ivy League received three bids for the tournament for the first time in conference history. Last season, Columbia won the second major bid in league history. The Lions are back again, just like Princeton. Both have 11 different types and compete in play-in games. Harvard, who won the conference tournament, is 10 seed.
Duke, TCU and NC states joined the Husky on a 2nd seed line. Notre Dame won at Texas, USC and UConn, but defeated the final weeks of the regular season and fell to a third seed.
William & Mary are one of six teams that will first appear in the Women’s NCAA Tournament. Others include Arkansas, Fairy Dickinson, George Mason, Grand Canyon and San Diego. Four teams head to the men’s tournament for the first time: High Point, Omaha, SIU Edwardsville and UC San Diego.
The Tribe (15โ18) is the first sub.500 team since the 2022 article’s words to hold the tournament.
Virginia Tech, James Madison, St. Joseph and Colorado were the first four teams left from the field.
Payment time
For the first time in NCAA history, women’s teams have financial incentives. They are ultimately paid to play the game in the NCAA tournament, as men have had for many years.
The so-called performance units representing revenue are given to the female team for each they get. Teams reaching the Final Four will be able to conference approximately $1.26 million in financial performance compensation over the next three years.
This comes a year after South Carolina saw her defeat Kate Linklark and Iowa gave a better TV rating than the men’s title game.
Tournament Site
The top 16 seeds of the 68 Team Field will host their first and second games, with regional rounds taking place at two neutral sites for the third year in a row. Spokane, Washington, hosts half of the Sweet 16, while Birmingham, Alabama, hosts eight other teams.
The Final Four will take place in Tampa, Florida on April 4th, with the championship game being held two days later.
A bite from the tournament
One team that didn’t make the field was Stanford, finishing up a 36-year winning streak for Cardinal in the NCAA Tournament. This is the first time Stanford has not played for the NCAAS since 1987. While that streak was over, Tennessee has continued to make the appearance of NCAA tournaments in this field every year since the first NCAA tournament in 1982. Ladyvols is 5 seeds.
