The Liberal Party has released their long-standing African strategy without the funding and media blitz that comes with Asian plans.
The strategy calls for Ottawa and businesses to focus on aid, and therefore focuses on trade and security cooperation with entities like the African Union.
Ottawa says it hopes to seize opportunities for diplomats and businesses from the continent’s young population that is supposed to drive and drive an economic boom in the coming decades.
The document reiterates the government’s recent spending and investment pledges made for the continent, but talks about relocating federal funds more efficiently.
The government has continued to postpone Africa’s strategy and downgraded it to a framework at some point, with one liberal lawmaker recently warning that it means that prologation may not have new funds.
Critics contrast to the $2.3 billion designated by the Liberal Party for the Indo-Pacific Strategy, which began in 2022 with a press conference and keynote speech.
