Two laws allow the Department of Homeland Security to address the Chinese administration’s threat to American public safety.
The House passed two bills on March 10th, which aimed to protect the United States from the threat posed by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
“As detailed in the Hometown Threat Assessment at DHS 2025, the Chinese government poses a wide range of risks to our country,” added Strong. “These threats span a variety of sectors, including public safety, borders, immigration, critical infrastructure, and economic security.”
Strong, who is on the Homeland Security Committee, said his bill would require DHS to provide Congress with an annual report, allowing lawmakers to “monitor and assess the effectiveness of their efforts.”
“China is expanding its secret influence and is trying to direct public opinion and effective policies that are more favorable to China and the United States,” said Rep. Louis Correa (D-Calif), a member of the Homeland Security Committee, in the House of Representatives.
“This bill will help ensure that the DHS implements a coordinated and effective response to the Chinese Communist Party’s efforts to undermine the US,” Correa added.
A post on social media platform X urged the strong Senate to take the law and send it to President Donald Trump’s desk “without delay” after the bill was passed.
“Communist China produces around 80% of the world’s batteries and around 70% of the world’s lithium-ion batteries,” Gimenes noted that “this dependency puts supply chains at risk and threatens national security.”
He added: “Our government should not spend taxes on procuring batteries from businesses that are profiting from slave labor or provide another pathway for CCP to expand surveillance equipment in the United States.”
China’s CATL, the world’s largest battery manufacturer of electric vehicles, is currently on the Pentagon list for the “Chinese Army.”
In the X-Post, after the House passed its separation from the foreign hostile battery dependency law, the House Selection Committee on the CCP said, “This is an important step to reduce dependence on China and protecting national security.”
“This bipartisan law will help protect both supply chains and national security by preventing the Department of Homeland Security from purchasing Chinese batteries for devices and technologies that keep Americans safe,” Hassan said in a statement at the time.
