Explanation
Due to US tariffs, Canada is likely to begin experiencing the economic shock that will bring about a recession this week. Before this latest hit, the economic landscape was already pessimistic for Canada. Many of EME’s clients, small builders and developers, were already facing extreme economic hardships due to relatively high inflation and high interest rates. A quote from the 1996 film “Primal Fear” comes to mind. guess what? it’s raining! “
As an employer, here is my challenge:
Over the next six months to a year, the most patriotic act that Canadian small businesses can achieve is doing everything they can to protect their pay. In that trend, we wanted the best, but the worst, EME and I refinanced to do everything in our power to hire people during the storm, even if it meant immersing ourselves in personal savings and infiltrating personal assets. This means putting up with as much as possible, not because it makes economic sense, but because of love for the country and its people.
So I’m sending this challenge to all of the Canadian small businesses that are similarly located. Do everything you can to hire your people!
These small actions, as they increase, will help maintain and protect Canada’s sovereignty. There is a Canadian case. Forged in the most severe climates, we are a country of true reconciliation and partnerships. While the English and the French fought the 100 Years’ War in Europe, in Canada they created a bilingual French/English country through dialogue, cooperation and understanding.
We are the country that carved the territory of the largest land, the northwest, and created the first majority of Inuit territory named Nunavut. We are the nation for over a century, when African American slaves were the end of the underground rail line where they ultimately reached freedom. We are a country that sent thousands of young people during the World War to take on the Nazis long before Americans joined the battle.
The world needs and deserves a free and powerful Canada. And even if it makes us collectively poor to remain free people, I hope to see how many Canadians are happy to continue to live it in the coming months.
As a traditional Canadian, I always try to save for rainy days. It’s raining. I will survive the storm.
