Google claims that the company has collected data about users without permission to pay $1.4 billion to Texas, the state attorney general said Friday.
In 2022, Attorney General Ken Paxton sued Google, saying the search giant had collected millions of biometric identification factors, including records of VoicePrint and Face Geometry, through products and services such as Google Photos, Google Assistant and Nest Hub Max.
“In Texas, Big Tech doesn’t go beyond the law. For many years, Google secretly tracks people’s movements, private searches, and even voice prints and facial geometry through products and services.
Google did not immediately respond to emails seeking comment.
The news has agreed in a privacy lawsuit over allegations that the tech giant used users’ biometric data without permission after Meta agreed to a $1.4 billion settlement with Texas for less than a year.
