GM recalls 600,000 US Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC cars

The loud knock or thumping sounds can be a sign of a defect in the engine that can lead to a failure.

General Motors has announced that it is recalling 600,000 SUVs and trucks in the US due to defects that could lead to engine issues.

GM said in an April 25 notification that manufacturing defects in the connecting rod and crankshaft parts of some Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC models could lead to loss of power, increasing the risk of crashes.

Vehicles being recalled include model year Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESVs from 2021 to 2024. Chevrolet Silverado 1500, suburbs, Tahoe. GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon and Yukon XL vehicles with a 6.2L V8 gas engine.

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration began an investigation into reporting engine failures in GM vehicles using V8 engines in January. The driver heard the sounds and thumps and saw the “check engine” lights turned on.

After conducting its own investigation, GM reported 12 crashes and 12 injuries that could be related to engine problems.

GM has identified 28,102 outdoor complaints or cases related to engine issues, of which 14,332 are allegedly lost propulsion.

According to GM, around 600,000 US vehicles are included in the recall, but only 3% have malfunctions.

The letter to the owner will be mailed from June 9th.

“Running now is voluntary, but it’s important for GM drivers with vehicles that have identified the vehicle in the recall that it is important to inspect the vehicle,” Pemberton personal injury law firm attorney Rhyan Lindley told NTD in an email on April 29th.

The dealer vows to inspect affected vehicles and repair or replace the engine at no cost if necessary. The cost of the recall will be private by GM, but it will likely be higher, according to German car owner Alan Gelfand.

“People should always ask about the vehicle they rent when booking a recall work, and owners of affected GM vehicles must book a recall service appointment as soon as they receive notification,” Gelfand told NTD on April 29.

However, the vehicle owner was advised that the recall might not go smoothly.

“People with vehicles that are part of the recall will face massive waiting times for repairs and inconvenience without vehicles for a while,” autoinsurance.org. Automotive industry expert Melanie Masson told NTD on April 29th. “The dealer may offer a lender or rental, but that is not guaranteed.”

“They haven’t replaced the entire car. They will repair or replace the engine if necessary,” Episivan’s chief marketing officer, Alex Black, told NTD on April 29th.

Epicvin is a vehicle history reporting platform.

The Associated Press and Reuters contributed to the report.
