TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Everglades Trust (Trust) released the following statement regarding the Florida Legislature’s development and passage of a $638 million fiscal year 2026-27 budget for Everglades restoration, including the funding needed to complete the district portion of the EAA reservoir, the “jewel in the crown” of Everglades restoration.

“Governor Ron DeSantis is a true champion of Everglades restoration, and we are so grateful that the Florida Legislature understands how important Everglades restoration is to our state and Floridians and passed a state budget that includes $638 million for Everglades protection and restoration.

“I want to thank our state leaders, especially Senate President Ben Albritton and Assembly Speaker Daniel Perez, and the House and Senate appropriations chairs for funding that continues to accelerate the process of creating a healthy and restored Everglades. This means fewer harmful discharges from Lake Chobee, cleaner water for Floridians, and a more natural flow of water south through the Everglades and all the way to Florida Bay, all of which contribute to and support strong economic development and a thriving state economy.

“Floridians can be proud of the budget Congress passed. This budget continues to advance Everglades restoration, funding the most important restoration projects and working to preserve America’s Everglades, one of our state’s most cherished regions.”
