Consumer uncertainty to cut jobs of up to 7,000 under Procter & Gamble tariffs

Associated Press Business Writer Michelle Chapman

Procter & Gamble will cut up to 7,000 jobs or roughly 6% of the global workforce over the next two years as Tide Detergent and Pampers diaper manufacturers tackle customers who are worried about tariff-related costs and the economy.

The work cuts announced at the Deutsche Bank Consumer Conference in Paris on Thursday account for around 15% of the current non-manufacturing workforce, according to Chief Financial Manager Andre Schulten.

“This rebuild program is an important step to ensure our ability to provide long-term algorithms over the next two to three years,” Schulten said. “But we won’t remove the short-term challenges we face right now.”

Cincinnati-based Procter & Gamble had around 108,000 employees worldwide in June 2024.

Cuts are part of a broader restructuring program. Procter & Gamble will also end the sale of some of its products in certain markets. Procter & Gamble said they will provide details in July.
