It was a bold bowl move. Orlando-based Ripley Entertainment purchased the 18-karat gold toilet at auction for $12.1 million. This is the most money the company has ever spent to add to its vast collection of oddities. Ripley acquired the fully functioning toilet at a Sotheby’s New York auction earlier this month. “We were the only bidders,” said Suzanne Smagala-Potts, Ripley’s senior manager. “This was quite surprising as we expected it to fetch a higher price as the artist himself is very famous.” The piece was one of three identical golden toilets created by Italian-born satirical visual artist Maurizio Cattelan.…

Attendance at IAAPA Expo continues to grow. The annual event, which concluded last week at the Orange County Convention Center, had 43,840 registered attendees for 2025, a new record. The five days of educational sessions, ride unveilings and other exhibit hall activities are hosted by the Orlando-based International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions. In June, the group announced plans to expand into the convention center’s west concourse for the first time in 2026. Governor Ron DeSantis announced $23.5 million in new state funding to support infrastructure improvements throughout Citrus County, Levy County and the city of Newberry. In response to the federal government’s rearview mirror shutdown, the airline trade group Airlines for America (A4A) predicts that U.S. airlines will carry more than 31 million passengers during the Thanksgiving period, which runs from Nov. 21 to Dec. 1. That total equates to about 2.8 million passengers per day, according to A4A, and the airline plans to offer 45,000 additional seats per day compared to 2024 to meet demand. Miami-Dade County lost about 67,000 residents from 2023 to 2024, according to a recent study by Redfin Real Estate. The two main factors cited for relocation were cost and flooding from hurricanes and major thunderstorms. Redfin and local agents cited several factors as contributing to the spill. Fort Lauderdale financial advisor pleads guilty to $94 million international investment fraud scheme
A Fort Lauderdale man pleaded guilty Nov. 14 to charges stemming from a years-long scheme that defrauded international investors, mostly Venezuelan nationals, of more than $94 million. According to court documents, Andrew Hamilton Jacobus, 64, misrepresented himself as a seasoned financial advisor managing legitimate investment portfolios, diverting investors’ funds for personal use and paying profits to early investors in a classic pyramid scheme. From 2004 to 2023, Jacobus raised funds through affiliated entities such as Kronos Financial Corporation and Fincer International Corporation, promising access to safe investment products and high-yield returns. A Fort Walton Beach man was sentenced to 12 1/2 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to possession of a firearm as a convicted felon and unlawful possession of a machine gun, federal prosecutors announced. Louis Terrell Jones, 42, was sentenced by a federal judge following his guilty plea. The announcement was made by John P.
