New data from the National Center for Education Statistics, the National Child Health Survey, and the State Board of Education compares safety metrics in all 50 states and ranks the safest and least safe states to attend school in America. Florida ranked 16th out of 50 states for school safety, with New Jersey and New Mexico leading the way as the safest states to attend school. Information included the number of students including teachers, career guidance counselors, and school psychologists, reporting rates of bullying, pedestrian fatalities, firearms brought to school, and safety infrastructure. Each state is scored on a maximum…

Sitting 11 points out of the second wild card spot in the Atlantic Division, with 19 games remaining, the Panthers are going to give it all they’ve got until the final horn sounds. “Finalizing this year, being able to make sure that the details, the culture, the way that we play, and the way we carry ourselves throughout this stretch here, finishing off is going to be the right way,” A.J. If you didn’t receive a raise, you’re not alone. Wages may be higher than they were in 2020, but for many workers, daily costs are rising just as much, if not more, and they have less money than they did four years ago. However, Florida continues to outperform the rest of the nation in key economic factors such as job growth and job investment. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) provides annual average wage data for each state. Their study reveals U.S. states where wages have outpaced inflation since 2020 and states where workers are falling behind Their recent…

In a surprising move just before the start of the NFL’s free agency period, the Miami Dolphins have released quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, according to team officials. Dolphins general manager John-Eric Sullivan was reportedly exploring trade options for the former franchise quarterback, but was unable to find a partner willing to take on the deal. The team ultimately made the decision to designate Tagovailoa’s release as a post-June 1 transfer, allowing Miami to absorb a significant financial hit in the short term while allowing for long-term cap relief. Under the terms of this release, Miami will have $67.2 million in dead…
Cannabis issues in the state have been temporarily stalled due to the current climate of legal and political uncertainty. Recreational use advocates want the state Legislature to take up the issue, but it could be until 2028 before there is any movement to put the issue back on the state ballot. Now, continuing to advance that cause, a new study from researchers at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus finds that cannabis use in middle-aged and older adults is associated with increased regional brain volume and enhanced cognitive abilities in areas associated with memory, processing speed, and executive function.…
Jim Kallinger, Chairman of the Small Business and Consumers Union Have you ever considered that many of today’s lawsuits are funded by third-party investors? This is a practice that most people are unaware of, but one that is rapidly becoming a dominant force in our nation’s litigation. For many years, the initial costs of litigation have been borne by law firms themselves, who typically work with high contingency fees that represent perhaps 40% of the likelihood of a verdict or settlement. By charging themselves such high fees, companies are risking their own funds to prepare for fact-finding, trials, and negotiations.…
It has been fashionable in America for some time to ignore the reality of evil in the world. When evil strikes, our cultural choice has been to protest loudly, wring our hands together, and then move on to the next horrifying news story. Are we lazy? Are we suffering from short-term memory damage? Do we lack the ability to take the time to gather evidence, develop a response strategy, or the will to say, “We’re mad as hell and we’re not going to take it anymore?” There was a time when our collective anger exploded over an American being harmed…
Florida is unparalleled in its concentration of pristine, shimmering, azure-blue freshwater springs, tallying more than 1,000 such examples throughout the state. These natural gems give a glimpse into the Floridan aquifer, a system of porous limestone that forms underground caves and rivers, pushing water up through vents and ultimately flowing into the faucets of millions of Sunshine State residents. These springs were the same sources of awe, wonder and intrigue that sustained Native Americans, animals and ecosystems alike for centuries before modern-day humans got their hands on the state’s treasured resources and soiled them, like the 20 lost springs of…
