We asked Orlando Sentinel readers for their votes in several major theme park categories, and the results are in with a lot of Epcot, Magic Kingdom and Wizarding World(s) of Harry Potter mentions. The final tallies weren’t too crazy, and participants got around town to make a list of favorites. There’s also a handful of categories for dislikes, unless queasiness is considered a good thing. We’re sharing the top three vote-getters in each category, and, just for grins, follow up with my opinions. Among the mild surprises, readers unclenched on Splash Mountain issues and embraced Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, are fans…
TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – Oil snappers are fan favorite fish, but most people are thinking about Florida keys or where to catch them. However, the bay has a rich population. You have to go a little further to find them. Captain Ryan Amaturo, with Reel Nauti Fishing Charters, says he has been successful in 120 to 180 feet of water near wreckage, coral reefs and rocky mountains. Having a chum block in the water helps to pull the snapper up a little from the bottom. If light tackles are best and the water is too clear, a lighter leader is…
By Leah Askarinam and Linley Sanders Washington (AP) – While elected Republican officials have touted the recent tax and spending bills as a victory for working Americans, new research shows that Americans see it as a victory for wealthy people. About two-thirds of US adults expect the new tax law to help the rich, according to a poll from the Associated Press Center for Public Affairs. Most – about six in ten minutes – think they can hurt low-income people more than helping them. About half say it does more harm than good for middle class people and people like…
Brian Slodisco and Will Wysert WASHINGTON (AP) — If one theme appears in President Donald Trump’s second term, that’s it. From crypto coins to Bibles to overseas development contracts to future mobile phone lines, Trump’s family business has been raked up for hundreds of millions of dollars since his election. “He is the president and is supposed to work for the benefit of the people,” says James Serber, professor emeritus at American University, who has been studying lobbying, campaign finance and political corruption for decades. “Instead, he helps his own personal interests to grow his own wealth. That’s not quite…

Trump says the cola will move to the cane sugar. But more and more shoppers don’t want sugar in soda
Dee-Ann Durbin The debate over whether Coca-Cola should use high-fructose corn syrup or cane sugar with its distinctive soda obscure the important facts. Consumers are looking for cola that is completely sugar free. Introduced in 2017, Coca-Cola Zero Sugar uses both the artificial sweetener aspartame and the natural sweetener stevia in its recipes. This is one of the fastest growing products in coke, with global cases increasing 14% in the first quarter of the year. In comparison, the company’s total volume has increased by 2%. PepsiCo also said Thursday that 60% of its sales in the second quarter in the…
Despite the veto by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, the move to connect the St. John’s River to the Oklawaha River is still pushing. Plans to restore the Oklawaha River will have to wait another year as they ultimately cut the project from the 2025-26 Florida budget. The state legislature had allocated $6.25 million to begin plans for a long-standing recovery of the Oklawaha River. This has long been sought by anglers, conservationists and community leaders in northeastern Florida. Oklawaha is the largest tributary of the St. John’s River, and together with the Silver River, forms a three-part waterway that touches…

The first launch of Blue Origin’s new Glenn Rocket was to send a pair of Mars-bound satellites for NASA, but last year’s uncertain preparatory plan forced NASA to pull back the payload. Now things are lined up for the mission to finally fly. The company announced Thursday that the second release of the heavy lifting rocket was for the escape mission, but did not announce the launch date for the target. “This will be an exciting mission for the new Glenn and Mars exploration,” Blue Origin CEO Dave Limp posted on X. The mission, called the NG-2, will also fly…
