At least one person was killed Saturday afternoon when six people crashed about 50 miles (80 km) south of New York’s capital Albany, according to the Federal Aviation Administration and police.

The Mitsubishi MU-2B was hanging down in muddy fields at 12:15pm (1615 GMT) in Copaic, New York, near Rhine, Massachusetts, and the plane headed to Columbia County Airport near Hudson, New York.

It was not immediately clear whether there had been any other injuries or deaths.

The FAA and local sheriff’s office said National Traffic Safety Commission officials will provide more information on Sunday.

At a press conference, Colombian parent Jacqueline Salvatore told reporters that snow and wet ground were hampering response efforts.

“It’s in the middle of the field and it’s quite muddy, so accessibility is difficult,” she said.
