DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (WFLA) — The 78-year-old woman who shot and killed her husband in 2023 as part of a murder-suicide agreement was sentenced Friday.

According to WESH, Ellen Gilland did not file a dispute in December to shoot and kill her terminally-born husband, Jerry Gilland, at Advent Daytona Beach.

Police say Ziland and her husband signed a murder-suicide agreement about three weeks before the shooting took place, and falsified the agreement on the basis that they will track Jerry Gillan’s health if it continues to decline.

After the filming occurred, Ziland barricaded in her room on the 11th floor for hours.

Giland originally faced first-degree murder charges in prison for up to 30 years, but they were reduced to supporting self-muder and manslaughter.

After much deliberation, Ziland was sentenced by a judge to prison for about a year, followed by a year of probation.
