BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. (WFLA) – A man accused of driving a stolen van hit a Florida business called “Smash Fitness” before being spotted in the bushes late Tuesday night.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office first responded to a carjack at the Holiday Inn Express. The caller said the man approached the parking van and asked the driver to leave the car.

Following what they described as a physical altercation, the suspect was identified as 42-year-old Adam Naylor and stole the van.

The lawmaker received a call about the van just before 11:30pm, under the same make and model that escaped by plunging into “Smash Fitness” at Bonita Beach Road in Bonita Springs.

Video taken from the lieutenant’s body camera shows the front window being crushed and debris lined up on the floor.

K-9 Dundee and his handler went to search for Naylor, whom they found to be hiding in a nearby bush.

Naylor was arrested and taken to the Lee County Jail on carjacking charges, driving for influence, damage to property and leaving the crime scene.

“I thank God. “I’m proud of the K-9 unit, who quickly pursued and found the suspect and took him to the Lee County Jail, where he belongs. He did that.”

This remains a continuous investigation.
