WASHINGTON, DC (WFLA) – Rep. Kathy Caster (FL-14) is working to improve cost transparency at hotels, motels and accommodations.
Castor, along with Young Kim (CA-40), Russell Fry (SC-07) and Kevin Marin (CA-15), are introducing the 2025 Hotels Rate Transparency Act, a bipartisan bill.

The bill prohibits unfair or misleading price ads for short-term accommodation. All mandatory and resort fee disclosures are required to view the total and final prices of the service.
“When planning a trip, families don’t have to play guessing games. The sneaky hidden fees are borne. They keep costs down and leave their families craving at checkout,” says Castor Rep. said. “Our bipartisan hotel fee transparency laws curb uncontrolled junk charges and cost reductions, ensuring that the price of a hotel stay is the price you pay. Hidden fees and surprises It’s not about worrying about unexpected fees, but about saving both hardworking families with both time and money.”
Rep. Kim argued that deceive CE fees could be added, especially during times when families struggle with rising costs. She hopes transparency will help travelers budget and make their lives affordable.

Meanwhile, Mullin said consumers are entitled to know what they will pay in advance, not blind to hidden fees. Rep. Frye emphasized the importance of tourism to the economy and stated how cost transparency benefits both visitors and local businesses.
Violation of Hotel Rates Transparency Act will result in penalties from the Federal Trade Commission.
The bill introduced at the 118th Congress was passed by the House of Representatives in June 2024. The bill will take effect 450 days after the law is enacted.
