TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Florida Democrats introduced a bill Wednesday to eliminate the state’s six-week abortion ban.
Fentris Driskel, a minority leader representing Hillsboro County families, said the law would come because it is a mandate from voters.

“We just want to implement the will of our voters and eliminate Florida’s six-week abortion ban,” Driskel said.
The Democratic Capitol leader is Roev. The goal is to restore the rules as before Wade. To get to that point, Doriskel is throwing her support behind Senate Bill 870.
The two-page measure prohibits abortion after survival rates. This is often said by medical professionals around 22 weeks. However, the bill’s language does not define the number of weeks. The bill requires doctors to determine survival rates. Exceptions include whether the mother’s life is at risk or whether there is a fatal fetal abnormality.
“Florida’s nearly total abortion ban threatens women’s lives and threatens to put doctors in prison just to provide the best care to patients,” Driskel said.
Anti-abortion advocate Charles DiMarco is concerned about the bill, like the meaning of the word “feasibility” and question what happens to teen parents’ permission to seek access to abortion I’m doing it.
“They use words like time constraints, age, and once again very vague survival rates to remove much of what’s out there,” DiMarco said.
Dimarco is CEO of Largo-based New Life Solutions. For 40 years, the organization has helped families choose a variety of options without access to abortion.
“If you talk to an abortion doctor, they might say that it’s not until it’s outside the womb. When you talk about the health of a patient, it’s not just physical health, but also financially. It could be something,โ DiMarco said.
In November, 57% of voters supported Amendment 4, which would have entitled abortion rights to the state constitution. The measurement failed because the 60% threshold was not reached.
“What they’re doing is dialing it backwards where the majority of Americans don’t want a late abortion, regardless of where they fall,” DiMarco said.
He mentions Harvard Harris polls from November 2023, with 73% of voters nationwide looking to see abortion restrictions in 15 weeks. But the minority leader said Democrats do what Florida voters want, despite the GOP having a huge majority.
“I’m honestly aware of the number of votes. For example, I understand that Democrats are in the minority, and I don’t have the numbers I need to pass this on my own,” Driskel said. Ta.
Minority leaders also said politicians should not be involved in reproductive medicine. She said it should be in the patients, doctors and their faith.
As some people use medicines in the mail, it is unclear as to the total number of abortions over the years. However, the Guttmacher Institute helps maintain abortion records provided by clinicians across Florida and across the country.
