St. Pete City Council to receive the latest reports on thousands of open code enforcement cases

st. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) – St. Petersburg City Council gets the latest report from code enforcement on storm-stormed properties.

This happens a few days after we learn that some people have open code enforcement cases at home, but we have no notice.

Typically, the number of open code cases is around 1,000 to 2,000. In January, that number reached almost 11,000.

The news shocked many homeowners when they checked their homes and rental properties.

“For me, that’s the biggest problem. Apparently, there’s 11,000 active research and the public doesn’t know about this,” Matt Weidner said.

“This was a bit too far. It was like my brother,” said Kevin Butdorf, president of the Coast Acre Civic Association.

There are thousands of open cases, including Eden Isles and Coast Acre homes.

“Disappointment, there’s a better way to handle things,” said homeowner Roro Christensen.

A city representative sent a statement on the case of the open code to your side:

“The City’s Code Compliance Assistance Department has launched code cases for properties identified through damage assessments after Hurricane Helen and Milton, and monitors compliance with city codes and FEMA regulations. These cases have been approved. It has been started to ensure city and FEMA requirements by securing. All inspections required to ensure compliance with Florida building codes are closed, and We will ensure that potential buyers protect against purchasing the renovated property without completing the required permits and/or inspections.”

Representative of St. Pete City

All of these open cases have made some residents worried.

“I don’t think it’s a productive way to ensure people get permission to get homes damaged by floods, as you would like to put it on. It will be,” Christensen said.

“Will we get through that? I think there will be some issues in the future, but we know we’ll just keep plugging in. This is what these people are experiencing. “On top of everything, it’s just another layer of bureaucracy,” Batdorf said.

The meeting will be held at City Hall on Thursday, February 13th at 3pm.
