TALHASSEE, Fla. (WFLA) – Lawmakers began their third special session in Tallahassee on Tuesday. They continued to pursue the issue of illegal immigration after being criticized by Gov. Ron DeSantis for not being strong enough.
After escalating weeks of tension between the governor and legislative leaders, was it all a temporary political conflict or will it progress in the end?
The Court of Appeals will not halt the judge’s order and require the Trump administration to freeze all federal cash
“This is the second special session within 30 days to address the issues the federal government is actually working on. This means an opportunity to focus on issues that are important to Floridians, such as reducing healthcare costs. It means you missed out on car insurance or property insurance,” said Fentrice Driskell, D-Tampa, a House minority leader.
Over the past four weeks, lawmakers have met in special sessions A, B, and now C, all incorporating immigration proposals.
Desantis and the lawmakers are now singing another song. Some call it teamwork, but others argue that the past few weeks are a waste of time.
“I don’t know how many of you have brothers or sometimes brotherly fights,” Senator R-Wauchula President Ben Albritton said, “I’m I feel good about it, no, I don’t think there’s a carryover.”
By calling it “team effort,” both rooms merged governor and legislative policies to introduce three laws.
“We have a great team. After all, this is a good bill. This is a great bill. We passed a few weeks ago, and it was this in Florida history, the history of the country. It was the strongest immigration bill passed by the time, said R-Sarasota State Sen. Joe Gruters.

Republicans are calling this a unified effort at last. Democrats argue that it is a costly movement that is useless for taxpayers.
“A lot of time wasted on this while Congressional Republicans and governors were trying to suck up Donald Trump,” Driskel said. “We are chosen to work here, to find Floridians and ensure that all Floridians enjoy freedom that is healthy, prosperous and safe.
To support the Trump administration, this week’s legislation for debate includes laws criminalizing illegal entry into Florida, requiring the death penalty for illegal immigrants convicted of capital crimes; Finishes in-state and university tuition fees and removes immigration officer roles. DeSantis opposed the agricultural committee.
“The governor wanted to be an elected official because it wanted to be an employee of a deep state. Where we landed the plane, it’s not the governor’s responsibility, it’s the responsibility of the cabinet. It will be,” said R-Brevard State Sen. Randy Fine. I will give my opinion, but the cabinet must work unanimously to set its policy. ”
Governor Desantis says he will have full support if the proposal remains as presented.
“Overall, I think this is really, really strong. I praise Congress for stepping into the plate. If they can pass on the proposal just presented, they hope for my strong support. You can. It’s time for us to accomplish this,” DeSantis wrote to X.
