st. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) – Florida fish and wildlife biologists weighed the heaviest Florida Panther recorded at 166 pounds.
This male Panther will become part of a long-term research program that monitors Panther’s movement, health and population dynamics and supports conservation efforts.

During the capture and collaboration process, biologists collected blood samples and tissue samples for genetic analysis. Next, place a collar with a GPS tracker on the panther to track movement patterns, survival, reproduction and habitat use.
The goal of this study is to inform science-based management of strategies to support the recovery of this endangered species population.
