Osteen, Fla. (WFLA) – A man accused of hitting his girlfriend in his head behind a fishing rod was tracked by a Florida K-9 and his handler.

According to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office, the woman reported that her boyfriend, 46-year-old Henry Purdue, pointed a gun at her and attacked her head with the edge of a fishing rod reel. The woman suffered a laceration to the head and was treated at the scene.

K-9 Red and his handlers responded to an incident from Collins Road, Osteen, located about 35 miles northeast of Orlando.

Lawmakers said the suspects fled and urged a search of the area.

“C’mon Buddy,” the aide told the dog. “Where is the bad guy?”

K-9 Red leads officials through wooded areas and pastures, first finding Purdue’s hat before finding him hiding in the tree.

“I ran because I’m bonded,” Purdue told them as he was handcuffed. “I’m not going to lie.”

Purdue was arrested on charges of fatal weapons, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and assault and battery aggravated by the major theft of a firearm. He was taken to the Volsia County Jail on a $40,000 bond.
