American airlines, the trade group representing most major airlines in the United States, have generated President Donald Trump for “bold leadership” after speaking out about improving the air traffic control system.
Trump’s comments came shortly after the tragic incident in Washington, D.C. There, a PSA airline flight and a Black Hawk helicopter collided with all 67 people killed on both aircraft. The National Transportation Safety Board is currently investigating a crash.
“I think it’s all about us sitting down and creating a great computerized system for the control tower. Trump also says he’s billing to strengthen the US air traffic control system. proposed to cooperate with Congress on the matter.
“We should have had the right control,” Trump said at his national prayer breakfast Thursday. “We should have better equipment. We don’t. We have outdated equipment. For some reason, they were understaffed.”
The following statement is attributed to Nicholas E. Cario, President and CEO of the United States (A4A).
President Trump’s bold leadership will take prompt and decisive action to obtain the right staffing at air traffic control facilities and modernize our country’s ATC technology with smarter and more efficient equipment. I praise you for taking it. The era of paper strips and floppy disks should end.
Airlines have made significant changes and meaningful investments in technology, operations, products and people. Governments need to do the same in an organized and timely manner.
Safety has always been our number one priority, supporting the efforts of the President, his administration and Congress, ensuring that aviation remains the safest mode of transport in the United States and around the world.
We all have to act with a sense of urgency. We agree with President Trump: Now is the time to act!
