The new budget, laid out by Gov. Ron DeSantis for the fiscal year 2025/26, will start again with tax cuts for Floridians.
One of the proposed tax cuts is called the “Summer of the Second Amendment.” It will be an additional tax holiday, from anniversary until July 4th to July 4th, which exempts sales tax on ammunition, firearms and related accessories. Other sales tax holidays are known as “tool time.” This exempts sales tax on certain products, such as designated tools and equipment used by skilled workers.
The governor pointed out the budget is around $115.6 billion, and his office says it is $3 billion lower than this year’s budget.
State police and firefighters also include pay. The governor’s budget shows 20% of entry-level law enforcement officers, 25% of veteran oath law enforcement officers and 25% of firefighters.
For environmental and conservation programs, Desantis’ proposal calls for $1 billion to repair Everglades and improve water quality.
Everglades Trust CEO Anna Upton praised the governor for making his words good in protecting and restoring Everglades with historic funds.
“We understand that, as Florida’s economy relies on the Everglades, which has recovered with clean water and healthy, investment in Everglades repairs not only help the environment, but also brings great national benefits.” Upton said.
Gov. DeSantis is also spending more money on the budget for immigration enforcement. The $1.5 million region will hire 15 new full-time positions.
As lawmakers are trying to introduce membership projects in their districts, and whether they are being rejected by the governor will certainly change.
